NORFOLK, Va. — John Wilson tossed 62⁄3 strong innings and combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as Old Dominion shut out Rice 2-0 on Sunday and completed a three-game sweep of the teams’ Conference USA opening series.

The Owls (6-16, 0-3) suffered their sixth consecutiv­e loss and ninth in the last 11 games.

Dane Myers was the hard-luck loser for Rice, tossing six innings of one-run ball. Myers also a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.

KENTUCKY 11, TEXAS A&M 7

Connor Heady homered and had four RBIs, and the Wildcats capped a three-game sweep of the No. 22 Aggies (14-7, 0-3) in the teams’ Southeaste­rn Conference opening series at College Station.

HOUSTON 19 ALABAMA ST. 11

Jake Scheiner went 5-for-5 with three homers and seven RBIs, Joe Davis was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, and the Cougars (13-5) routed the Hornets at Schroeder Park to seal a three-game sweep and win their fifth consecutiv­e game.

KANSAS 4, TCU 3

Owen Taylor hit a tiebreakin­g solo home run in the ninth inning, and the Jayhawks avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the third-ranked Horned Frogs (14-5, 2-1 Big 12) in Fort Worth.

TEXAS TECH 8, TEXAS 5

Hunter Hargrove drove in three runs, and the No. 11 Red Raiders (17-4, 3-0) held the Longhorns to just four hits in Austin to complete the program’s first three-game sweep of Texas (13-9, 0-3).

BAYLOR 5, WEST VIRGINIA 1

Kameron Esthay homered and finished with four RBIs, and the No. 16 Bears (16-4, 1-2 Big 12) beat the Mountainee­rs in Waco to avoid a threegame sweep.

O.J. Oloruntimi­lehin and Charles Guillory each hit their first homers of the season for the Tigers, but their efforts weren’t enough to help Texas Southern (6-13, 6-2 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) complete a threegame sweep of the Golden Lions at MacGregor Park.

Ethan Valdez scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning, and the Colonels defeated the Huskies (8-10, 0-3 Southland) to complete a three-game sweep in Thibodaux, La.
