Chewing over Apple’s news

- bob@workingsmarterformacusers.com

Last week was a busy one for Apple, which announced several new iPhone and iPad configurations and a new iOS app for creating videos. The company also acquired one of my favorite thirdparty iOS apps, Workflow.

The new iPad is a lowerpriced 9.7-inch model with a retina display, starting at $329 for a 32GB WiFi-only model ($599 for the 32GB WiFi-only iPad Pro).

The iPad Pro includes exclusive features such as a fully laminated display with an antireflective coating, a wide color True Tone display, 12MP camera with Live Photos, True Tone flash and wide color photo capture. The new model has an 8MP camera and none of the other features.

Finally, the new model sports a slightly slower A9 processor (versus the A9X processor found in the Pro models), and is not compatible with the Apple Pencil or Smart Keyboard.

On the iPhone front, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are now available in a new color — (Product)Red, which provides a contribution to the Global Fund with every purchase. The new edition is available in 128GB and 256GB configurations with prices starting at $749.

Apple also announced that its smallest iPhone model, the iPhone SE with its diminutive 4-inch display, will be available in 32GB and 128GB models (double the current capacity and replacing 16GB and 64GB models), with the same starting price of $399.

All the new iPad and iPhone configurations are available now.

Apple also announced a new iOS app called Clips, an app that features a unique design for combining video clips, photos and music into great-looking videos to share with friends through the Messages app, or Instagram, Facebook or elsewhere.

Clips also introduces Live Titles, which lets users create animated captions and titles using just their voice.

The new Clips app will be a free download available in April.

Last, but definitely not least, Apple has acquired one of my favorite iOS apps, Workflow. It lets you combine and automate functions from numerous iOS apps and services into “workflows,” which can be executed with a single tap. The good news is that Workflow, which I believe used to cost $4.99, is now a free download.
