ESTA LEZAMA

1923-2017

-

Esta Lezama, 93, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at her home. She is survived by her beloved family: her two daughters, Suzanna (Butch) Kaplan and Adrienne (Keith) Shaftel; grandchildren: Gabriela, Danny (Iris) and Amanda Shaftel, Ariella (Brian) Hurwitz, Ma’ayan and Elan Kaplan. She also leaves 6 beloved great grandchildren: Leah, Sophia and Isla Shaftel , Lena Roberts, Asher and Josephine Hurwitz, brother Philip (Shirley) Seidman and six nieces and nephews. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. to immigrant parents, Ethel and Sam Seidman.

She moved to Mexico City in her early twenties, after falling in love with the culture, music and people of that exotic city. There, she met and her husband of 54 years, Jorge Lezama, where they raised their daughters. They moved back to the U.S. In 1976, living in Houston for the last 38 years.

She worked with her husband in their gold chain importing business, Eurochain, for ten years and then in her son-in-law’s diamond business, Shaftel Diamond Co. until her retirement in 1999. There, besides being office manager, she became a friend and confidant of everyone who was waiting to see Keith. She was warm and friendly, always kept a positive attitude and great sense of humor.

Her greatest joy was getting together with family and friends on special occasions, which was pretty much any occasion Esta was a part of. She loved to sing and did so often - everything from old show tunes to romantic Mexican classics. She had a song for every word you could think of.

Esta will be terribly missed by her devoted daughters and all the rest of us who have been so fortunate to have had her in our lives.

Graveside Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet, Houston, TX.
