ROBERT GROSSMAN

1951-2017

-

Robert (Bob) Grossman was born in Paterson, NJ, on August 1, 1951, to Albert and Sarah Grossman, both Holocaust survivors. He passed away peacefully on June 20, 2017, with his wife and daughter by his side.

After graduating Fair Lawn High School in 1968, Bob left the cold weather behind and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston in 1974. In addition to cheering on the Cougars and joining Sigma Chi Fraternity, the UH campus is where Bob met and married the love of his life, with whom he recently celebrated his 43rd wedding anniversary.

Bob was naturally athletic, absolutely loved playing, watching and talking sports, and attended countless UH basketball and football games, USC football games, and Rockets games over the years. His love of sports may have been rivaled only by his love of all things sun, pool and beach related. He enjoyed researching and traveling to a variety of destinations around the world, but nothing could beat the many trips spent with family and friends at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the big island of Hawaii.

Immediately after college, Bob put his charm and intelligence to good use at the new downtown Brooks Brothers’ store, quickly becoming one of the retail company’s youngest salesmen to be offered a management position. While he enjoyed the clothing business, Bob ultimately decided to follow a different career path and enrolled in South Texas College of Law, earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1977. Before going solo and forming The Grossman Law Firm in 2009, Bob practiced law with his brother at the firms of Waldman & Smallwood, Waldman Smallwood & Grossman, and Grossman & Waldman. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the American and Montgomery County Bar Associations, and other legal organizations. He was also consistently recognized throughout his career by several national publications.

As a distinguished trial lawyer and mediator in the Houston area for nearly forty years, Bob’s gift of connecting with people from all walks of life was evident from the start. He took great pleasure in helping clients and what truly set him apart was the remarkably high degree of integrity, kindness and compassion he brought to each and every matter. Away from the office, Bob was always accessible to friends and family whenever called on for legal, travel or life advice. He found great satisfaction in mentoring young attorneys and nothing made him happier than watching his own daughter follow his footsteps into law.

The family wishes to thank the team at MD Anderson for its guidance and care over the last year. Bob is preceded in death by his father, Albert Grossman, and his uncle, Harry Gray. He is survived by his mother, Sarah Grossman; his wife, Cathy and daughter, Lindsay; brother Joel Grossman, wife, Jamie; sister Edie Amran, husband David; sister-in-law, Danna McDonald; sister-in-law, Chris Mitchell, husband, Jeff; sister-in-law, Cindy Scott, husband, Ron; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at 10:00 am at Forest Park − The Woodlands, 18000 Interstate I-45 S. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University of Houston Athletics – Cougar Pride at uhcougarpride.com (713743-4684) or the charity of one’s choice.
