Woman accused of selling fake steroid at mall
A woman was in federal court Wednesday, accused of selling a counterfeit steroid hormone to an undercover agent at her weight loss and nutrition store in a west Houston strip mall.
According to the criminal complaint filed against her in federal court, Carolina Aguila Rodriguez, 47, was known as “Doctora” to her customers at Naturavida, 1200 Blalock, although she does not have a license to dispense prescription medication.
Prosecutors said Rodriguez sold the counterfeit medication, known as Diprospan, to undercover federal agents on at least five occasions between January and June 2017.
Diprospan is not approved for sale or use nor manufactured in the U.S.
During one transactions Rodriguez is accused of agreeing to sell 100 vials of Diprospan to an undercover agent.
She accepted a $1,200 deposit but later pulled out of the deal when she heard about a police raid on another supplier, officials said.
Rodriguez remains in custody. She is charged with smuggling goods into the U.S., trafficking in counterfeit goods and introducing misbranded drugs into commerce, according to the criminal complaint.
