SYLVIA PATRICIA WAGNON COLLINS

1934-2017

-

Sylvia Patricia Wagnon Collins peacefully passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, June 25, 2017 with her sons by her side. Sylvia was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on December 6, 1934, to Alice and Harvey Wagnon as their ninth child. On April 17, 1960, she married Donald R. Collins at Bellaire Baptist Church in Bellaire, Texas, and together they had two sons. In December 1979, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Houston. She and her family were charter members of Champion Forest Baptist Church. At the time of her passing she and Don were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Sylvia served as a school room mother, Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher, member of AAUW, and president of the Northampton Garden Club. She was so proud when the Klein ISD Board of Trustees chose to name Klein Collins High School as recognition of the family’s contributions to the school district. She was also honored when the 55 acre “Cypresswood Park” was named “Don and Sylvia Collins Park” by Harris County Precinct 4 as a tribute to their community efforts.

Sylvia was “Sweetheart” to her husband, “Mother Dear” to her sons, “Gram” to her grandchildren, Aunt Sylvia and Aunt Patsy to her nieces and nephews, and a treasured friend to everyone she met. Her top priority in life was to be the best wife, mother, and grandmother possible. Her positive spirit and upbeat outlook were an inspiration to her family, and all of her encouragement and support played a vital role in helping others to achieve their goals. Sylvia enjoyed traveling, fine dining, and playing Scrabble with her children and grandchildren; and she cherished visiting with family and friends. Her kind, sweet manner will be missed as well as her outstanding memory and her ability to communicate effectively with people in a gracious way.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and seven sisters. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Donald R. Collins, Sr., CPA; her sons, Donald R. Collins, Jr., MD and wife, Janet M. Collins, and Robert W. Collins, Sr., ESQ and wife, Amy R. Collins; four grandchildren, Robert (Robby) W. Collins, Jr., Natalie C. Collins, Donald R. Collins, III, and Campbell M. Collins. Sylvia is also mourned by 5 generations of family members and many close friends.

Her family is grateful for the superior care and compassion that she received at St. Joseph Medical Center from the nurses and staff under the guidance of Dr. Sara Reddy, Dr. Thien Nguyen, and Dr. Carlos Barriga.
