John J. O’Connell joined his beloved wife Joan A. O’Connell on May 20, 2017. John lived life to its fullest. Born in New York City, John grew up in Queens, met his wife, began his twenty-five year plus career with Shell Oil and had five children there. In 1970, he moved the family to Texas which he quickly adopted as his native state. John’s career was one he loved. He designed systems for product accounting and spent time in Tulsa, OK as the manager of Shell’s credit operations before moving back to Houston to work with computer systems. He spent his last five years in St. Louis, MO. John is survived by four of his five children and their families: Elaine O’Connell and David Halterman of Blackhawk, CO; Jim and Ellen O’Connell of Mandeville, LA; Barbara and Kelsie Sams of Wildwood, MO; and, Amy and Ron Robinson of Magnolia, TX. His son Brian passed away in 1981. He is also survived by nine grandchild­ren and five great grandchild­ren. Nathan and Julie O’Connell of Mandeville, LA and their children Karlie and Cullen. Sean and Jaime O’Connell of Austin, TX and their children Allyson, Olivia and Bree. Nick O’Connell of Covington, LA. Jennifer and Trey Schexnaydr­e of Baton Rouge, LA. Katy O’Connell of Mandeville, LA. Shelby Robinson of Conroe, TX. Megan and John Colvin of Dallas, TX and Kayla Robinson of Magnolia, TX. A funeral Mass and celebratio­n of John’s very full and joyful life will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10:30 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 19222 Tomball Pkwy, Houston, TX 77070.
