Cubs rally late to top Nats

WASHINGTON — Jon Jay hit a go-ahead two-run double during a three-run, ninth-inning rally against Blake Treinen, lifting Chicago over Washington 5-4 on Thursday.

Tommy La Stella drove in a run with a two-out single against Treinen (0-2), and Jay followed with a hit to rightcente­r that brought home Javier Baez and La Stella.

Wade Davis struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 16th save after Felix Pena (1-0) worked the eighth.

The win split the four-game series and kept the defending World Series champions from falling under .500.

Chicago starter Jon Lester gave up Ryan Zimmerman’s RBI single in the first, but then blanked Washington over the next five innings. He struck out seven and allowed three hits.

INDIANS 5, RANGERS 1: Corey Kluber allowed three hits and struck out 12 in eight innings to help Cleveland beat visiting Texas.

RED SOX 6, TWINS 3: David Price won for the second time in three starts, Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez hit solo home runs, and Boston rallied to beat visiting Minnesota.

CARDINALS 10, D-BACKS 4: Randal Grichuk hit a goahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning and drove in five runs to lead St. Louis to a victory at Arizona.

TIGERS 7, ROYALS 3: Michael Fulmer came within one out of a shutout, and Detroit hit three home runs in a victory over visiting Kansas City.

ORIOLES 2, BLUE JAYS 0: Ubaldo Jimenez pitched twohit ball over eight innings and Jonathan Schoop had two hits and an RBI as Baltimore won at Toronto.

METS 6, MARLINS 3: Jay Bruce had a pair of RBI hits and scored twice, and New York took the rubber game of its series against host Miami, winning to finish 5-5 on a road trip.

PIRATES 4, RAYS 0: Jameson Taillon scattered seven hits over 61⁄3 innings, and Gregory Polanco and John Jaso hit solo home runs as Pittsburgh beat visiting Tampa Bay.

BREWERS 11, REDS 3: Ryan Braun started Milwaukee’s six-homer barrage, hitting the first of three off Homer Bailey, as the Brewers won at Cincinnati.

PADRES 6, BRAVES 0: Padres rookie Dinelson Lamet allowed four hits over seven innings, and Wil Myers and Hunter Renfroe hit two-run homers as San Diego beat visiting Atlanta.
