For one school, ignorance leads to Bliss
Dave Bliss has a new job. A new coaching job. So once again, this man is leading a group of young men.
The former Baylor men’s basketball coach was hired by a Christian high school in Las Vegas.
Were there really no better options? Come on. Does Vegas not get Showtime? If Bliss’ antics at Baylor weren’t enough — he lied over and over again while breaking NCAA rules — surely his performance on the Showtime documentary “Disgraced” should have sealed the deal.
Bliss should not be in a position of leadership ever. He’s as crooked as they come and if I had a teenaged son, I wouldn’t let him in the same zip code. Let’s take a look at the Bliss list: • He paid tuition for two players — a massive rules violation.
• After a player was murdered, Bliss made up a cover-up story about how the young man was a drug dealer. There aren’t words to describe how terrible a lie like that is. He bashed a person’s character to an entire country, the kid’s family and friends, his teammates. That’s bottom-of-the-barrel-scum level behavior.
• He met with his players to convince them to say Patrick Dennehy (the murdered player) was a drug dealer.
A teacher and coach at the school, September Wilson, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she was comfortable with the hire of Bliss.
“There’s a great documentary he’s put out there on his testimony, and that is the one thing everybody needs to see right now. That he’s a man of Christ,” Wilson told the paper.
She and I must have seen different documentaries.
Because what I saw was a man who continues to lie to try to cover his own tail. I had never heard of this school, Calvary Chapel Christian School, prior to Bliss’ hiring there and I now have an extremely negative view of the place.
There are thousands of worthy coaches in the country who could win games and be great leaders to young men. Dave Bliss is not one of them.
