1941-2017

-

March 28, 1941 – August 14, 2017 Linda Carol McKnight (born Casanova) passed on to her heavenly home on the Vigil of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 14, 2017. Her last day was a beautiful one surrounded by family and friends, praying and singing songs to ensure she knew how much she was loved.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Robert J. (Jim) McKnight, daughters Sheila McKnight and Monica McKnight Heal, son-in-law Steven, and beloved granddaughters Gabrielle & Jacqueline; her sisters Dorothy Shumate and husband Bill, Melva Casanova, Virginia McPherson; sisters-in-law Linda Henshaw and husband Ronnie and Dixie King and husband Terry; nieces and nephews Amy, Billy, Charles, Emily, Johnny, Michael, Rodney, Teri, Thomas and Warren; her lifelong friend Beverly Cross and many other cousins, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her son Jason McKnight, parents Adele & Melvin Casanova, parents-in-law Viola and Bruce McKnight, and brothers Robert and Homer Casanova.

Linda was born on March 28, 1941 in Houston. She attended Austin High School and then married her high school sweetheart Jimmy on April 18, 1958.

Linda had a smile and personality that lit up any room. She loved her family dearly, and was especially gifted at spoiling her granddaughters. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and Macy’s had nothing on her brilliantly decorated home and Christmas tree – many times winning neighborhood awards! And oh how she loved her lake.

Linda never met a stranger and was so welcoming to all. She loved travelling and was a master packer and vacation planner. Family gatherings were so important to her, and she always filled them with music, playing cards, and sharing family stories and jokes.

Throughout her longsuffering illness, she kept a smile on her face, was easy to laugh, and unbelievably strong and courageous to the end. She and her family are eternally grateful to her amazing caregivers Loretta, Lula, Evelyn and Ruth.

To celebrate her love and light, a visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 25th, 6-8pm at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am Saturday, August 26th at The Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston, followed at graveside, South Park Cemetery in Pearland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to FOOD FOR THE POOR, INC.
