Consider a name change

Regarding “Confrontation over statue remains calm” (Page A3, Sunday), the statue “The Spirit of the Confederacy” is of a winged warrior or an angel bearing a sword and a palm frond representing both war and peace. It is not a monument to an individual.

Could the monument be repurposed with a new title and a new cause? Maybe newly titled “The Spirit of Reconciliation” to show the coming together of the citizens. Yes, the Confederacy was a lost cause and needs to be left behind in the pages of the history books. Larry S. Dial, Cypress
