Gerald “Yank” Arnold of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on August 19, 2017. Yank was born on October 24, 1926 in Hammond, Indiana to parents Garland D. and Josephine Arnold. He served in the United States Navy for four years and later graduated from the University of Houston where he lettered in varsity baseball. He later went on to play semi-pro baseball in Houston, Texas and remained a loyal Cougar fan for the rest of his life.

He married Velda Fern Fagan on June 17, 1955 and remained happily married for 50 years until Fern passed away in 2005. Yank and Fern raised 3 sons, Mark, Steve, and David and lovingly raised their grandson, Zachary Arnold. Yank worked as a business owner and in car sales for over 45 years. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and coached his son’s little league teams enthusiast­ically.

Yank is preceded in death by his Wife, Fern Arnold; Father, Garland Arnold; Mother, Josephine Arnold; twin sister, Geraldine Arnold; and Son, Mark Arnold. He is survived by his Sons Steve Arnold, David Arnold and wife Karma Burford Arnold; Grandson, Zachary Arnold; Sister-in-Law, Lila Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Yank’s family was the center of his life and he had many life-long friendship­s that he cherished.

Yank, we love you, miss you and your memory will remain fondly in our hearts!

There will be a visitation on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at Forest Park Westheimer. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Friday followed by a reception at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to SEARCH Homeless Services.
