WALTER C. “DUB” WILSON

Walter C. “Dub” Wilson stepped into heaven Tuesday morning August 15, 2017 at his beloved ranch south of Brownwood, Texas. Dub was born in Brownwood, Texas, September 21, 1942. He attended public school in Bangs, TX and graduated as valedictor­ian in 1961. He graduated from Howard Payne University in May 1965 and became a CPA in 1974.

He started his career as an accountant for Humble Oil Company in Kingsville, Texas where he met his wife, Deb, June 14, 1965. They were married August 26, 1965. He enlisted in the Navy reserves in February 1966 and was accepted to Navy Officer Candidate School in August 1966 in Newport, RI. He served three years off the coast of Viet Nam and received an honorable discharge as full lieutenant. He continued his oil and gas career for 35 years in Corpus Christi and Houston retiring as CFO of EOG Resources in 2000.

Dub came to know the Lord as a grade schooler at First Baptist Bangs. Before settling in Houston, Dub and Deb served in churches in Rhode Island, California, Corpus Christi, TX and Kingwood, TX as Sunday School teachers and choir members. He faithfully served His Lord and Savior as Sunday School teacher, department director, chairman of the deacons and in the choir at Houston’s First Baptist Church for about 25 years. He loved serving others and especially singing in the Houston Christmas Pageant from 1973 until the early 1990s.

After retiring, Dub devoted his energy to serving his beloved Howard Payne University for over 17 years on the board of trustees and as chair to many board committees, restoring the Lyric Theater in downtown Brownwood and serving as the inaugural chair of the Lyric Performing Arts Company for 10 years, and hosting numerous organizati­ons, groups and friends at Four Oaks Ranch for fabulous events. He served on the Board of Advisors for Stephen Grace and Company.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfathe­r who was lovingly called “Ponca” by his grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry E. “Lige” and Lottie Mae Wilson of Bangs, Texas and brother-in-law, Don Roberts of Midland, TX. He is survived by his wife, Deb Wilson; his son, Scott Wilson and wife, Susan, of Coppell, TX and his daughter, Aimée Wilson Sproles, and husband, Brandon, of Houston TX; and his grandchild­ren – Mackenzie, Grayson and Caroline Wilson, and Abby and Ethan Sproles. He is also survived by his brother, Weldon Wilson and wife, Kay, of Brownwood, and his sister, Wilma Roberts of Midland, and by nieces and nephews: Van, Garett and Ty Wilson; Steven and Candace Wilson; K’Lynn Roberts; Wilson, Nikki, Corinne and Bailey Roberts, and numerous other relatives.

W.C. Wilson was buried at Jordan Springs Cemetery, Brownwood, Texas on August 18, 2017. A celebratio­n of life will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Houston’s First Baptist Church.
