DAVID ALLEN NEWCOMB

1935-2017

-

On Thursday, September 21, at 5:25 a.m., the Lord called David Allen Newcomb home to Heaven.

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 Dave was born in Peoria, Illinois on September 13, 1935. After graduating from high school, Dave attended Baylor University where he received a Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1957. While attending Baylor, Dave met Colleen Childress at a pep rally where he held her hand for the first time. Later he would say, “I held her hand and never let go.” Dave and Colleen fell in love and were married in 1958. Dave was an adored father by his two children, Mark and Nancy, and by his daughter-in-law, Esther, and son-in-law, William. He was a wonderful Grand Pa to his six grandchildren: Sergio, Daniel, Lizzy, Michael, Lauren and Lindsey, and a great-Grand Pa to Jacob and Daniel Jr. Most of all, he was a beloved husband to Colleen with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Dave was a Vice President at both Merrill Lynch and Morgan Keegan. He was also President of Royce Park Investments and served on the board of the Baylor Business School and as the Vice President of the Houston Baylor Club. Dave was a proud Texan who loved his country and proudly served as a U.S. Army reservist.

Dave loved the Lord and was privileged to serve Tallowood Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. He was an encourager and friend to many people. Dave was a man of character and integrity and strived every day to share the love of Christ with others.

Dave was passionate about his family and reminded them daily that they meant the world to him. He was compassionate, kind, gentle, caring, witty, funny and always thinking of others. We will forever be changed by his presence in our lives and we will miss him every day until we are reunited with him in Heaven.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Daily Newcomb, his father, Harry Newcomb, and his brother, Philip A. Newcomb, who were all waiting for him in Heaven for a joyous reunion. In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, he is survived by his cherished sister, Karen Newcomb Norton and her husband, Mike, of Peoria, Illinois; and his beloved brother, Jim Newcomb, and his wife, Phyllis, of East Peoria, Illinois.

Dave led a full and amazing life which will be celebrated on Thursday, September 28, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Road, Houston, Texas 77024. Immediately following the celebration of Dave’s life, there will be a reception at the church. Dave will be placed in the Texas Liberty Mausoleum at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Tallowood Baptist Church, Abundant Life Missions Fund, In Memory of David Allen Newcomb, 555 Tallowood Road, Houston, Texas 77024.
