GIRL’S CONDITION BETTER

The Yankees’ Todd Frazier said Monday that the condition of the young girl injured by his foul ball last week has improved and she could be leaving a hospital soon.

The girl was hurt by a 105 mph drive off his bat into Yankee Stadium’s lower deck behind third base last Wednesday and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Frazier has been in contact with her father.

Frazier plans to meet with the family.

MLB issued recommendations for protective netting or screens in December 2015, encouraging teams to have it in place between the ends of the dugouts closest to home plate.

The Yankees said last month they are “seriously exploring” additional netting for 2018.

INF Eduardo Nunez was removed from Monday night’s game against Toronto after he aggravated a right knee injury that caused him to miss the previous 13 games.

During Nunez’s second trip to the plate, he fouled a ball into the seats and dropped to the ground in pain.

After talking to a trainer and manager John Farrell, he finished the atbat with a liner to third, but barely got out of the box and had trouble putting weight on the knee.

Nunez is batting .313 with eight homers and 27 RBIs with Boston.

OF Yasiel Puig is running into problems with the club yet again.

Puig arrived late to the ballpark Monday and was benched by manager Dave Roberts. Puig was not in the lineup Sunday, either, after committing a baserunning blunder the previous day.

Roberts stopped short of saying Puig got punished Sunday but made it clear the 26-year-old Cuban slugger was being disciplined Monday before the NL West champions hosted the San Diego Padres.
