Double whammy for Eagles’ Sproles — torn ACL, broken arm
PHILADELPHIA — When Darren Sproles walked briskly off the field holding his wrist after it appeared he injured his knee, the Philadelphia Eagles thought it was good news.
Bad news came Monday.
Sproles, 34, tore his anterior cruciate ligament and broke his forearm on the same play in Sunday’s 27-24 victory over the New York Giants. He will miss the rest of the season.
“It’s a devastating loss,” Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson said.
The versatile Sproles has nine returns for touchdowns, including seven on punts.
Bears S Demps has broken arm
Chicago safety Quintin Demps will be out indefinitely after breaking his arm in the Bears’ 23-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Demps, a 10-year veteran, signed a three-year contract with the Bears in the summer after playing the 2016 season with the Texans.
Practice possible for Colts’ Luck
Indianapolis coach Chuck Pagano said there is a chance that quarterback Andrew Luck could return to practice Wednesday.
Pagano already has ruled Luck out of Sunday night’s game at Seattle.
Still, it would be a major milestone in Luck’s recovery from offseason shoulder surgery.
The franchise quarterback missed all of the team’s offseason workouts, all of training camp and the entire preseason before he was activated from the physicallyunable-to-perform list Sept. 2.
But the most significant indication that Luck is close to returning came when Pagano did not rule him out of practice this week — something he did each of the past two Mondays.
Luck had surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his throwing shoulder.
Odds and ends
San Francisco placed defensive lineman Tank Carradine on injured reserve with an ankle injury. … Cleveland rookie defensive end Myles Garrett, who is battling a right high ankle sprain, will have his status updated Wednesday when the Browns practice. Garrett, the overall No. 1 draft pick, has not played in a regular-season game. … Seattle linebacker Dewey McDonald suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury on the opening kickoff of Sunday’s game against Tennessee. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he did not know the extent of the knee injury but said it was “serious.”
