Watson: ‘All love and respect’ for Moon
Deshaun Watson is a stylish kind of guy. When he arrived to Houston the day after the NFL draft, he was suited up with red-bottom Christian Louboutin shoes. Before his first NFL start, he showed up to the stadium in Cincinnati wearing something that looked like a tuxedo.
On Sunday morning, he wore the outfit that will most endear him to Houston sports fans — Fashion by Warren Moon.
Watson arrived at NRG Stadium before the Texans played the Browns wearing an old-school Columbia Blue Houston Oilers Moon jersey. The jersey actually came from Moon himself, who sent it to Watson himself earlier in the season.
“It’s all love and respect for Warren Moon,” Watson said after the game. “Had the privilege to meet him this summer at The Cam Newton Foundation. It was me, Cam and Warren. Just having a great conversation and a great night. We’ve been communicating throughout camp and throughout the season. He’s a great guy that I can look up to and ask for advice because he’s been in my shoes before. I just texted him and he said he’ll send me a jersey, so I pulled it out for this outfit.”
Moon took notice, tweeting: “Grateful that a future NFL great honors the NFL past .... Now go be the best @deshaunwatson.”
So far, so good for Watson. In Watson’s first six NFL games, he’s thrown for 15 touchdowns and gone 3-3. In 1984 in Moon’s first six NFL games, he threw for four touchdowns and the Oilers lost all six games.
Watson said he’s watched highlights of Moon’s days with the Oilers.
“I just know he’s a big part of this city and this organization whenever the Houston Oilers were here, and just how the fan base is still in love with him,” Watson said.
“What he’s done for this city and this organization was huge, and I”m trying to do that - do the same things for the Houston Texans and continue to have success
and build on it.”
