Payne takes hiatus from social media

-

Seth Payne, the former Texans defensive lineman who now co-hosts a morning drive time talk show on KILT (610 AM), said he’s taking a self-imposed weeklong break from social media after losing his temper during Sunday’s Browns-Texans game and posting an angry comment on Twitter.

Payne said he used profanity while complaining about Texans wide receiver Braxton Miller’s front flip in the end zone after scoring a touchdown. After consider his comment and comments from followers, he said he deactivated his account (@PayneNFL).

“I’m not one to use too much profanity, so I just decided to take a little break. It’s not like a corporate mandate or anything,” Payne said.

“Social media in general has been getting to me a little lately, so I decided I’m going to take a step back and focus on trying to be a better communicator. … I need to stop this cycle before I become a curmudgeon and get back to enjoying sports.”

Payne said he will attempt to set a better example when he returns to social media. “Sometimes I forget that the people I’m talking about are people, and that is the last thing I would want my child to forget,” he said. “Kids have to deal with social media these days, and I’m trying to remember that people are people.” Payne, a graduate of Cornell, played for the Texans from 2002 through 2006 after five seasons with the Jaguars. His memorable sack of Quincy Carter produced the clinching safety in the Texans’ victory over the Cowboys in their inaugural game. Payne has worked for KILT alongside on-air partner Mike Meltser since January 2013.
