John Henry Carothers, a big hearted and devoted husband, father, and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, with family and friends at his side. Johnny was born in Houston, Texas on the September 23, 1941

Johnny’s kindness and love for adventure defined him. He lived life to the fullest and certainly got the most out of his 76 years, enjoying time with friends and family most of all. Always welcoming, Johnny never met a stranger and brought life to every room. Many fond memories were made as he travelled to explore his passion for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time on the water, particular­ly in Port Aransas. His spirit and legacy will live forever in the hearts of many.

Johnny attended St. Stephens Episcopal High School and The University of Texas. He served as rush captain of Phi Delta Theta fraternity where he met many of his closest friends. The Cadillac Bar Houston was his legacy project.

The family is most grateful for the loving care and friendship of Brandi Toran.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Durell Carothers, his son Patrick, his sister Drusilla, and many faithful labradors. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; his children Hunter Carothers, Carlotta McLean and husband Bill, Charlotte Carothers, and his darling baby Chelsey and husband Matthew; grandchild­ren William and John Henry McLean, Cullen Lowder, McCall and Carla Carothers; siblings David, Mary K. and Andy; and many nieces, nephews and remarkable friends.

An informal gathering will be held at the Carothers residence at 6 pm on Monday, November 13.

A memorial service is to be conducted at Jasek Chapel of Geo H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Dr. on Tuesday, November 14 at 2pm with a reception following at Houston Country Club.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, memorial contributi­ons may be directed toward the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 5433 Westheimer Rd., Ste. 300, Houston, TX 77056.
