No. 25 A&M rips No. 11 W. Virginia

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — Tyler Davis had 23 points and 13 rebounds, Admon Gilder scored 23 points, and No. 25 Texas A&M overcame a sluggish start to dominate No. 11 West Virginia 88-65 early Saturday in the Armed Forces Classic.

D.J. Hogg added 19 points for the Aggies, who played without suspended forward Robert Williams and point guard J.J. Caldwell. Gilder also had nine rebounds and seven assists.

James Bolden led West Virginia with 19 points.

The game, which started at midnight, was played in a hangar on the sprawling air base in southweste­rn Germany.

BAYLOR 107 CENTRAL ARKANSAS 66

Manu Lecomte scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, and led six players in double figures as the 24th-ranked Bears opened the season with an easy victory at Waco.

Terry Maston had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Baylor. Jo Lual-Acuil Jr., the returning 7-footer, scored 17 and had nine rebounds.

TEXAS 105 NORTHWESTE­RN ST. 59

Dylan Osetkowski scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Longhorns routed the Demons at Austin.

Texas dunked, trapped and fired away on 3-pointers from the opening tip in an effort far different from last season when the Longhorns went 11-22 and finished last in the Big 12.

Texas freshman Mo Bamba finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

GONZAGA 97 TEXAS SOUTHERN 69

Josh Perkins scored 20 points, hitting six 3-pointers, in the Bulldogs’ victory at Spokane, Wash.

Johnathan Williams added 16 points for Gonzaga, which lost four key players from a team that last season lost to North Carolina in the NCAA championsh­ip game.

Demontrae Jefferson had 20 points for the Tiger.

UTAH 83 PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 62

Sedrick Barefield scored 22 points, and David Collette added 17 to lead the Utes past the Panthers at Salt Lake City.

Prairie View was within three points late in the first half, but Utah scored 24 consecutiv­e points to take over the game.

Dennis Jones and Gary Blackston each scored 16 points for PV.

PROVIDENCE 84 HOUSTON BAPTIST 55

Maliek White scored 13 points, and Kyron Cartwright had 10 points and distribute­d 10 assists to lead the Friars past the Huskies at Providence, R.I., in a 2K Classic tournament opener.

With the scored tied at 11, Providence put together an 18-4 run that HBU never recovered from.

David Caraher led the Huskies with 19 points and seven rebounds.

TEXAS TECH 75 SOUTH ALABAMA 50

Freshman Zhaire Smith led the way with 14 points in his debut, and the Red Raiders pulled away for an easy victory over the Jaguars at Lubbock.

DUKE 97, ELON 68

Marvin Bagley had 25 points and 10 rebounds in his college debut as the top-ranked Blue Devils routed the Phoenix at Durham, N.C.
