Houston - William Henry (Bill) Harwell, Jr., departed this life November 12, 2017 at his home in Houston, TX.

Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Thursday in White’s Chapel of Memories. Burial: Brock Cemetery. Visitation: There will be an open visitation held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday at White’s Funeral Home, Weatherfor­d.

Bill was born July 4, 1933 to William Henry and Tennessee Lenora Taylor Harwell, the fifth of eight children, in Whitt, TX.

He graduated from Millsap High School in May of 1951; from Weatherfor­d Junior College in Weatherfor­d, TX in 1953, with an Associates of Art Degree; and from the University of North Texas, Denton, TX in 1958 with a Bachelor of Business Administra­tion/Accounting Degree.

Bill served in the U.S. Army, Rank E4, as a Radar Technician from 1955 to 1957, was stationed in Germany for much of that time, and received an honorable discharge.

He married Marilu Burford on June 6, 1959, and from that union had two children, Michael Dean and Helen Lenora Harwell. He married Jane Ellen Woods on April 15, 1972.

He was employed by Shell Oil Company from 1957 to 1991, as Accountant, Supervisor, Pension Specialist, Financial Analyst, and Investment Manager.

Bill was a lifelong Southern Baptist and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Houston.

He was a lifelong Republican and served regularly on numerous committees and worked on hundreds of campaigns. He served as Precinct Chairman and as an Election Judge for 23 years. He also served as a Delegate at ten state convention­s.

Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Ellen Harwell; and siblings, Adrian Harwell, Audine Hestilow, Doris Goddard, and Carroll Harwell.

Survivors: Daughter, Helen Lenora Lewis; sisters, Waunice McCollum and Ozelle Scrutchins; brother, Odell Harwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services are in care of White’s Funeral Home, Weatherfor­d.
