Atkins, White power No. 2 UT

LAS VEGAS — Ariel Atkins scored 17 points and Jatarie White added 14 to lead second-ranked Texas past LSU 75-66 in the Las Vegas Shootout on Friday.

Atkins, who had four steals, made six of her eight tries from the field.

Lashann Higgs added 13 points and Brooke McCarty had 11 points for the Longhorns (4-0).

Chloe Jackson scored a season-high 23 points for the Tigers (2-3).

HOUSTON 75, LIBERTY 68

Jasmyne Harris scored all 16 of her points in the second half to rally the Cougars to a victory over the Flames in the opening round of the UMass Thanksgivi­ng Classic at Amherst, Mass.

Houston (3-1) scored only seven points in the second quarter and was behind 29-19 at halftime before exploding for 56 points in the second half while holding Liberty to 39.

Angela Harris led the Cougars with a seasonhigh 20 points, and Serithia Hawkins had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her 13th career double-double.

UH will play Northeaste­rn — a 64-54 winner over Massachuse­tts — at 10 a.m. Saturday.

RICE 58 ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK 51

Rice redshirt sophomore Erica Ogwumike scored 29 points to help lead the Owls past the Trojans at Tudor Fieldhouse for their fifth consecutiv­e victory to open the season.

Rice’s 5-0 start is tied for the best in school history and is the first time the Owls accomplish­ed the feat since 2001-02.

The Owls trailed by as many as 16 points with under two minutes to go in the first half but closed on a 9-0 run to carry the momentum into the second half, when they outscored Arkansas-Little Rock 32-18.

TEXAS SOUTHERN 66 NEW MEXICO ST. 50

Joyce Kennerson scored 28 points and Kaitlyn Palmer added 25 as the Lady Tigers outscored the Aggies 32-4 in the fourth quarter to win at the UTEP Holiday Classic in El Paso.

New Mexico State (2-3) led 25-24 at halftime, and TSU (1-3) was outscored 21-10 in the third period to fall further behind.

The Lady Tigers went on a 13-2 run to open the final quarter and went ahead 50-48 on a 3-pointer before the Aggies tied it with 3:18 left in the game. TSU then scored the final 16 points of the game.

SOUTH CAROLINA 79 RUTGERS 68

A’ja Wilson scored a career-high 33 points and Lindsey Spann added 17 as the No. 3 Gamecocks survived a serious test before beating the Scarlet Knights in the quarterfin­als of the Gulf Coast Showcase at Estero, Fla.

Wilson went 15-for-17 from the foul line for South Carolina (5-0), which won its 16th consecutiv­e game dating to last season.

UCLA 64, KANSAS ST. 55

Monique Billings had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the fifth-ranked Trojans past the Wildcats at the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas.

WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY 61 ARIZONA ST. 48

Allie LeClaire scored 18 points, and Jessica Lindstrom added 17 as the Phoenix upset the No. 24 Sun Devils at the Cancun Challenge.
