Jaguars WR Strong tears ACL in first game after promotion

-

The Jacksonville Jaguars have lost another wide receiver for the season.

Jaelen Strong said Monday that he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at San Francisco on Sunday. Strong announced the news in two Instagram posts, saying, “this lil setback setting me up for a greater comeback.”

Strong caught three passes for 38 yards and a touchdown in a 44-33 loss to the 49ers. It was his debut with the team.

Jacksonville (10-5) claimed Strong off waivers from the Texans early in the season, and he spent the previous five weeks on the practice squad before getting called up because of injuries. His first reception went for a 5-yard score, but he was hurt late in the game.

The Jaguars, who will be a playoff team, have Allen Robinson (knee) and Rashad Greene (back) on season-ending injured reserve.

Allen Hurns missed his sixth consecutive game Sunday because of a high-ankle sprain, and leading receiver Marqise Lee sat out the game with an ankle injury.

League adjusts Week 17 lineup

To ensure that all games with playoff implications that impact each other are played at the same time, the NFL made several changes to its Week 17 schedule.

This Sunday’s BuffaloMiami, Cincinnati-Baltimore, and Jacksonville Tennessee games all will move from noon to 3:25 p.m. starts and remain on CBS.

The Carolina-Atlanta and New Orleans-Tampa Bay games will move from noon to 3:25 p.m. and remain on Fox.

There will be no Sunday night game on the final week of the regular season.

“We felt that both from a competitive standpoint and from a fan perspective, the most fair thing to do is to schedule all Week 17 games in either the 1 p.m. or 4:25 p.m. ET windows,” said Howard Katz, the NFL’s senior vice president of broadcasting. “This ensures that we do not have a matchup on ‘Sunday Night Football’ on New Year’s Eve that because of earlier results has no playoff implications for one or both of the competing teams.”
