TODAY’S BOWLS
Heart of Dallas
Who: West Virginia (7-5) vs. Utah (6-6). When/where: 12:30 p.m.; Cotton Bowl, Dallas. TV: ESPN. Notable: The Mountaineers look to end a two-game losing streak that began when quarterback Will Grier — eighth in Football Bowl Subdivision in passing yards per game — was lost with a broken middle finger on his passing hand during the first quarter against Texas. Besides Grier, the West Virginia offense will be missing leading rusher Justin Crawford as the senior prepares for the NFL draft. Crawford had consecutive 1,000yard seasons with 11 total touchdowns. The Utes need a victory to finish with a winning record for the fourth consecutive season and might need Matt Gay, who recently earned the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker, to get them over the top.
Quick Lane
Who: Duke (6-6) vs. Northern Illinois (8-4). When/where: 4:15 p.m.; Ford Field, Detroit. TV: ESPN. Notable: It has been a streaky season for the Blue Devils, who won their first four games, lost their next six and finished the regular season with two consecutive victories to become eligible for a bowl. They hope to make it three in a row against the Huskies, who went to eighth consecutive bowls before missing out in 2016.
Cactus
Who: Kansas State (7-5) vs. UCLA (6-6). When/where: 8 p.m.; Chase Field, Phoenix. TV/radio: ESPN; 97.5 FM. Notable: The big question for the Bruins is whether star quarterback Josh Rosen will play. He has lingering concussion issues and injured his shoulder in the final game against California, missing the second half. Rosen has said he wants to play, but there have been media reports he won’t. Regardless, it could be the end of the prolific quarterback’s college career. He is expected to leave for the NFL after his junior season and could be the No. 1 pick in the draft.
