10 BEST EVENTS TO WATCH OR ATTEND

- Randy Harvey

Sugar Bowl

1

When: 7:45 p.m. Monday. TV: ESPN. Alabama and Clemson meet in New Orleans in a College Football Playoff semifinal. This is a rematch of last year’s national title game, won by the Tigers. But they don’t have Deshaun Watson this time.

Rose Bowl

2

When: 4:10 p.m. Monday. TV: ESPN. Oklahoma and Georgia meet in the other CFP semifinal in Pasadena, Calif., with Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield and the Sooners trying to take down the SEC champion. The national title game is scheduled for Jan. 8.

Texans at Colts

3

When: Noon Sunday. TV: CBS. Happy New Year! The Texans will say good riddance to 2017 with a winnable game against the even more hapless Colts. A loss by the Texans would plummet them from first last season to worst this year in the AFC South.

Saints at Buccaneers

4 When: 3:25 p.m. Sunday. TV: Fox. New Orleans punched its playoff ticket with last weekend’s win over Atlanta. A win Sunday will give the Saints the NFC South title ahead of Carolina, which visits Atlanta in a key game.

Lakers at Rockets

5

When: 6 p.m. Sunday. TV: ATTSW, NBA. The Rockets were rolling along with the NBA’s best record before Los Angeles sent them into a tailspin with an upset victory last week. Injuries to Chris Paul and Clint Capela have contributed to the Rockets’ woes. They play at Washington at 6 p.m. Friday, also on ATTSW.

Belk Bowl

6 When: Noon today. TV: ESPN. Texas A&M meets Wake Forest at Charlotte, N.C. in a game between teams with 7-5 records. It’s the final game before the Jimbo Fisher era officially begins for the Aggies.

Texas A&M at Alabama

7 When: 5 p.m. Sunday. TV: ESPN2. The Aggies might have had a disappointing football season. That so far is not the case in men’s basketball. They open SEC play ranked No. 5 in the nation with an 11-1 record.

Texas A&M at South Carolina

8 When: 1 p.m. Sunday. TV: SEC Network. The Aggies’ women’s basketball team also is off to a good start. Coach Gary Blair’s team is ranked No. 22 this week. This is a big test for the Aggies, though, at No. 4 South Carolina.

Temple at Houston

9

When: 5 p.m. Saturday. TV: ESPNU. No. 22 Cincinnati is the only AAC men’s basketball team receiving much national respect. But the Cougars (10-2) should be receiving more love—and votes—as they continue conference play against the 7-4 Owls.

Citrus Bowl

10

When: Noon Monday. TV: ABC. Except for the CFP semifinal games and perhaps the Cotton Bowl game between Ohio State and Southern Cal (7:30 p.m. Friday, ESPN), this is one of the more attractive matchups as Notre Dame takes on LSU in Orlando.
