C ELEBRITY breakups were all over the news this year. They start with a statement from one of their reps, describing mutual love and respect, followed by a conscious uncoupling and a request for privacy. It’s all very formal and formulaic. But many of 2017’s splits still came as big shocks. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris: Likely to be the year’s most bemoaned breakup. If these two adorable creatures can’t have it all, then how is there hope for the rest of us? Ewan McGregor and Eve Mavrakis:
The wise Obi Wan and the art director split this spring, after 22 years of marriage. Fergie and Josh Duhamel: The Black Eyed Peas alum and the rom-com leading man, who have a 4-year-old son together, announced an end to their eightyear marriage, after reportedly living separate
lives for quite a while.
4 Helen Hunt and Matthew Carnahan: After 16 years together, the “Mad About You” actress and her writer-producer boyfriend officially called off their relationship. The couple share a daughter, who is 13.
5 Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor: The actors met while shooting “Meet the Parents” in 1999 and fell in love. But in May, the couple announced they were divorcing, after 17 years of marriage.
6 Jesse Williams and Aryn Drake-Lee: The actor and activist and his wife married in 2012. After a stint in marriage counseling in 2016, Williams moved out in March and filed for divorce in April. DrakeLee has requested sole custody of the couple’s two children.
7 Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian: For real this time. The reality couple, who share a daughter, say this is the last time they’ll call it quits. But let’s check back on this one in 2018’s roundup.
8 Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac: After three years of marriage, the superheroine and her husband officially divorced this year. Rumor has it Johansson is now dating “SNL” writer and “Weekend Update” host Colin Jost.
9 Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana: After five years of marriage, the singer and the businessman are embroiled in what the celebrity press is calling a billion-dollar divorce. We guess “That’s the Way Love Goes” sometimes.
10 Cuba Gooding Jr. and Sara Kapfer: The couple married in 1994, even before Gooding won his Oscar for “Jerry McGuire.” But after 22 years of marriage, the parents of three officially divorced this year.
