ARNETTA VENTERS DEWALT

Ms. Arnetta Jones Venters Dewalt of Houston, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2018 in the Riverside Hospital of Columbus, Ohio with her love ones near. She was born the third child to the union of Charlie and Eldora Jones in Goodrich, Texas on Aug 15, 1927. She grew up and graduated from New Hope High School in Goodrich, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Arnetta accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age and was baptized in Goodrich. She grew up in the church there and moved and united with Pleasant Grove M.B.C. under the late Pastor, Rev. Aaron McCardell. She moved to Pleasantvi­lle and united with Gethsemane M.B.C. in 1967 under the leadership of the late Pastor, Rev. Hayward Wiggins, where she remained a faithful member.

Arnetta felt the need to rededicate her life to Christ as an adult and was baptized once again in Dec. 1999 by Gethsemane’s new Pastor, Rev. Dennis C. Jones who gladly honored her request.

She served as a faithful, inviting and sweet spirited Usher; a dedicated member of Dea. Levert Mills’ Sunday School class and member of Gethsemane’s Martha Circle.

Arnetta married the late George Venters on Nov. 21, 1948 and to that union, two sons were born: Vaughn B. and Yeura R. Venters. She was a devoted mother who loved the Lord and worked hard to support her children who she dearly loved. She was a warmhearte­d second grade teacher for 31 years in the Houston Independen­t School District. Arnetta had a God given gift to motivate and patiently educate the little characters she taught and continued to work as an associate teacher for 20 plus years following her retirement.

Arnetta was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority of the Gamma Omega Chapter. She was also a member of: National Women of Achievemen­t; Young at Hearth and H.H.C.R.T Associatio­ns & the Ensemble Theatre Guild. Mrs. Venters served as an active volunteer Usher for: The Alley Theatre; The Grace Theatre and The A.D. Players’ Theatre.

Sis. Venters was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers; 4 sisters and a Special Niece, Orbie S. Ratcliff (passed away 2017)

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Vaughn B. Venters of Houston, TX and Yeura R. Venters (Ellen) of Columbus, OH; three sisters: Norma J. Roberts, DeLois Woodard; and Minnie B. Salsman (Aaron); two brothers: Charles Jones; and Milton Jones (Olga) all of Houston, TX.; one aunt, Gloria Jones; five grandchild­ren: Aglaia M.. Yuri R., Tonia M., Yalon R. (Shane’) & Vaughn M. Venters; one great-granddaugh­ter; Blake Isabella Venters; One Special Friend: Charmaine Venters; Two Special Nieces: Verna Edmond and Artheretta Charles; One goddaughte­r: Telitha Lorraine Reis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebratio­n of her life will be Friday, January 19, 2018, 11:00 AM at Gethsemane M.B.C., 8775 Flagship Drive, Houston, TX 77029. Visitation will be prior to services beginning at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributi­ons in Ms. Arnetta Venters’ be directed to: The Educationa­l Board Scholarshi­p Fund, c/o Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church.
