PREDICTIONS

-

When: 2:05 p.m. Sunday Where: Gillette Stadium; Foxborough, Mass. TV/radio: CBS, 610 AM Records: Jaguars 12-6, Patriots 14-3 Jaguars rankings: Offense 6th (1st rushing, 17th passing), defense 2nd (21st rushing, 1st passing) Patriots rankings: Offense 1st (10th rushing, 2nd passing); defense 28th (20th rushing, 29th passing) Last AFC Championship Game appearances: Jaguars lost 33-14 to Titans in 1999;

Patriots defeated Steelers 36-17 in 2016. All-time AFC Championship Game records: Patriots 9-4, Jaguars 0-2.

When the Jaguars have the ball: Rookie running back Leonard Fournette will be key to keeping the Patriots’ high-powered offense on the sidelines. He started strong against the Steelers before leaving briefly with an injury. Jacksonville will need a big game from Fournette to ease the pressure on quarterback Blake Bortles. When the Patriots have the ball: The venerable Tom Brady will face arguably his toughest challenge of the season against Jacksonville’s stingy secondary, particularly cornerbacks A.J. Bouye and Jalen Ramsey. They made enough plays to beat the Steelers, but facing Brady on his home turf is a different animal.

Did you know: The Jaguars’ first AFC Championship Game appearance, which was during their third season in 1996, also came at New England. … The Jaguars can become the 11th team to defeat their conference’s top two seeds since the current playoff format was adopted in 1990. The last to do so was the Ravens in 2012 (who beat the Broncos and Patriots).
