A man whose remains were found in a tarp on La Porte’s Bay Forest Golf Course on Jan. 10 was likely killed in a domestic dispute in 2016 and then placed in a storage unit, La Porte police said Wednesday.

The remains have been positively identified as Shannon Lance Ivey, 54. The person who allegedly killed him, who is also the renter of the storage unit, is dead, police said.

And, police did not say how Ivey’s remains were transported from the storage unit to the golf course.

According to police, Ivey lived part time in La Porte while spending the majority of his time working overseas.

Crime scene units were called to two scenes Jan. 10: one at Bay Forest Golf Course, where the remains were found, and the other at Spencer Mini Storage, 11220 Spencer Highway, where it was believed the remains had been stored until they were transported to the golf course.

“The suspect passed away recently, causing the storage unit rent to become delinquent and leading to the eventual discovery of the remains,” a police statement said.

It is not known how long Ivey’s body was held at the storage facility before being moved to the golf course.

“We are not currently releasing any information on the suspect,” said Assistant Police Chief Steve Deardorff. “There are no other suspects at this time, but we’re looking to make sure there isn’t more than one person involved.”

There was no missing person’s report on file for Ivey.
