MIKE TYSON GOES NUCLEAR ON ALAIN MOUSSI.

- BY CARY DARLING

“Maze Runner: The Death Cure”

The third film in the youngadult sci-fi franchise has our heroes on the hunt for a cure to a deadly disease. A new addition to the “MR” universe is a character played by Walton Goggins (“The Shield,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Justified”) whose inclusion nearly always elevates whatever he’s in. Playing throughout Houston

“Kickboxer: Retaliation”

The latest sequel in the long-in-the-broken-tooth “Kickboxer” franchise just may turn out to be the guiltypleasure movie of the year. Wait, hear me out. What’s not to love about a throatpunching action film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mike Tyson and Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, the guy with the name straight from a Viking ship who plays wall-of-man Gregor Clegane (aka The Mountain That Rides) in “Game of Thrones”? Sure, the dialogue and acting probably will be as wooden as Sherwood Forest (or, at least, as bad as previous “Kickboxer” films) but, if those elements are important to you, you probably stopped reading this at “Van Damme.” Playing at AMC Studio 30, Houston.

“Mom and Dad”

Yes, Nicolas Cage has made a lot of throwaway, must-needa-paycheck movies over the years, but if he did “Mom and Dad” to scrape together bus fare, this might be a case where economic necessity and a good time collide. He’s a dad in a world where a hysteria/virus/ whatever has made parents turn violently on their kids, and the kids have 24 hours to survive with their father and mother trying to kill them. Directing is Brian Taylor, one half of the duo who made the absolutely electric Jason Statham films “Crank” (2006) and “Crank: High Voltage” (2009). Playing at Alamo Drafthouse Mason Park.
