CYCLING
Pedaling the Prairie Saturday is a noncompetitive bike ride held annually around the rice fields and prairie between Bellville and Katy. All proceeds benefit the athletic department of Faith West Academy. The ride begins at 9 a.m. at the Waller County Fairgrounds in Hempstead. Several planned routes range from a 24-mile beginner course to a 71-mile endurance ride. The postrace party with a complimentary lunch begins at 11 a.m. The course closes at 3 p.m., and the fairgrounds close at 4 p.m. Break points with refreshments, as well as mechanical and medical support, are located every ten to 15 miles. Police escorts are at major intersections, along with SAG vehicles and ride marshall support. Visit pedalingtheprairie.org.
Wheels, Wine & Women at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Bike Barn West U. and the Custom Fit Studio discusses all things cycling — including transporting the bike, changing a tire, fixing a chain and doing a safety check. The National Amateur Golf Tour kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sharpstown Golf Course. Format is stroke play by categories, and participants can accumulate points to win the Champions Cup. The Houston Golf Association has formed a partnership with Secret Golf Inc., a digital media instruction company. Secret Golf will provide an annual membership to its online instructional golf platform to HGA Junior Golf and The First Tee and to two amateur championships — the Greater Houston Men’s City Amateur and the Greater Houston Men’s Senior City Amateur. The initial program will be for 2018 and will offer access to Secret Golf ’s instructional curriculum and exclusive library of video content from PGA and LPGA Tour players. Harris County Hospital District Foundation 16th annual Texas Med Run on Saturday benefits Harris Health CAPES: Children of Adult Patients Enduring Stressors Program. Run categories are 10K, 5K run/ walk and kids 1K run. The start/finish line is located on Cambridge Street, just north of South MacGregor Way. Game Set Match Gala and Tennis Fashion Show begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Galleria to raise funds for the HTA National Junior Tennis & Learning Program.
