Harvest of dysfunction
Regarding “HISD faces challenges, changes in fiscal storm” (Page A15, Wednesday), in his op-ed laying out the challenges that HISD faces, Superintendent Richard Carranza led with the Harvey card. As a taxpayer and as a parent of two HISD grads, I believe invocation of Harvey is disingenuous and is intended to shield Carranza and the HISD board from appropriate criticism.
The price is now being paid for years of board dysfunction and for management’s permitting overcrowding and underperformance in any number of district schools.
The sooner that Carranza recognizes this, the better his chances of making progress in lifting all HISD schools up. Good luck to him.
