TED O. FINCH
1925-2018
Ted Ogden Finch was born in Grapeland, Texas July 28, 1925 and peacefully left this world March 2, 2018. Son of Ector Lee and Luna Guice Finch; brother of Vaughn, Charles, Monte, and John Richard Finch; husband of Frances (Fran) Jeanette Thornton Finch; beloved father of Gregory Finch, Paula Finch Hollowell, and Brian Finch; treasured grandfather of Whitney Hollowell and Justin, Christopher, Kaitlyn, and Lauren Finch; and greatgrandfather of Seth Finch. Ted enjoyed gracing the world with his sense of humor, charity, and keen wit. Ted was known far and wide for his stunning blue eyes, gardening skills, and “joke of the day” and was deeply loved by all who met him.
As a US Army paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, Ted served in World War II. He was also a member of the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. For his valor and courage, he was awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. During the Korean War Ted met Fran by way of letters she wrote to keep up the spirits of servicemen. They courted and were married in Los Angeles, CA by their pastor J. Vernon McGee famous for his “Thru the Bible” radio program that was heard around the globe. They moved to Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco before settling in Pasadena and Houston, TX where they resided until Fran’s passing in 2015.
His life work was as a plant operator with Rohm&Haas for 35 years, retiring in 1990. and continuing as an active member of the “Haas Beens” in retirement.
Ted’s quiet faith was nurtured by Church of the Open Door, First Baptist Church of Golden Acres, and South Main Baptist Church. As an outward expression of faithfulness, he supported his beloved church family and the JOY Club, and various mission projects.
Join family and friends Friday, March 23, 2018 for a Service of Remembrance at 1:00PM, South Main Baptist Church, Pasadena TX. Interment alongside Fran will take place at Houston National Cemetery in the late fall.
