Excuses, excuses
Regarding “Carranza praises HISD … faintly?” (Page A1, Thursday), it’s hard to fault a person for improving their economic circumstance. But Richard Carranza’s rationalization for leaving HISD after barely 18 months comes across to me as dishonest. Citing the lack of an extension to his contract that wasn’t due for expiration for another 17 months is highly disingenuous.
While he did bring a valuable charisma to the job, his policy initiatives were divisive and hardly a proven remedy to the many significant problems facing the Houston Independent School District. Add the news of his base salary remaining the same and I can only surmise his leaving is merely an escape from an untenable situation. Raymond Ruiz, Pearland
