Holly Hall to host final book review of 2018
Holly Hall’s Book Review Series is a longstanding tradition in the Houston community. The first book review was held in 1949 and was the first fundraiser held to back the initial building of Holly Hall Retirement Community.
Today, four reviews are given each year by professional reviewers including Texas’ famed storyteller, Rose-Mary Rumbley. Proceeds from ticket sales are used to defray the cost of living for those residents who can no longer afford the full amount of their care.
This series of events is a great way to spend the morning hearing about a book, typically best-selling works of history, biography or fiction. The guests have no pressure to read the book prior to attending.
“Sixty-seven years later, the book review series continues to provide information, education and entertainment to another generation of readers,” said Nancy Craig, Holly Hall board member and chairman of the Book Review Series. “We ... know there is nothing that enhances a reader’s experience with a book better than a wellcrafted book review.”
The 67th season of the review will come to a close on March 28 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Colleen Boudreaux’s insightful review of The Smithsonian’s History of America in 101 Objects by Richard Kurin. Tickets can be purchased at the door along with season tickets for the 2018-2019 season. Reviews next season will include The Kingdom of
Speech by Tom Wolfe and Bedtime and Other Stories from the President’s Guest House by Benedicte Valentiner. For more information about the Holly Hall Book Review, visit www.hollyhall.org/events or call 281-936-2850.
