Store belongings behind doors

- By Maria Ward

Doors, cabinets and walls are available spaces that can be used for storage/decorating. Most living quarters have multiple doors. Generally, the doors have doorknobs. When organizing, behind-the-door knobs can be used to hang hats, scarfs, hand towels, jackets or bags. The items are stored, but hidden.

If you want to consider vertical space organizing, every door back in your house can be used for storage. It is easy to purchase over-the-door hook items for behind the door.

In the bedroom, you can purchase an over-the-door hanger for iron and ironing board, pockets for shoes and purse holders, scarf/ tie and belt rack, clothes hooks, craft storage, dressing mirror; even holiday wreaths can be stored nicely behind doors.

In the bathroom, overthe-door hooks can be used for towels or extra bins for storage. A makeup mirror also can be placed behind the door. Even a magazine rack can be hung behind the bathroom door.

Kitchen pantry doors can handle an over-thedoor large spice/storage rack. Behind other kitchen doors, aprons, dish towels and plastic bags can be stored. The area inside your cabinet doors also can serve to organize and store. The inside of cabinet doors can be used to store notes, lists or be used like a bulletin board. Further, keys and mail racks can be installed. There are cabinet over-the-door spice racks, wrapping paper holders, lid organizers and baskets.

Most homes have unused wall storage space. Walls in closets, kitchens and bedrooms can be converted to decorative storage spaces such as shelving, hooks, display centers and memorabilia hubs. The combinations are as endless, so don’t spend lots of money for standalone storage units. Be creative and use your vertical space.
