“Truth or Dare” might not be original, but it’s a new movie.

“Big Fish & Begonia”

This animated film from Chinese directors Xuan Liang and Chun Zhang may be inspired by the work of famed Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, but the story about a girl who lives in a magical realm is full of undeniably Chinese touches. Rated PG-13. Playing at AMC Studio 30, Houston.

“Beirut”

Jon Hamm stars in this thriller written by Tony Gilroy (“Michael Clayton,” The “Bourne” movies) about a former American diplomat who has to negotiate for the life of a friend in Lebanon. Rosamund Pike and Mark Pellegrino co-star. The film has stirred up controversy over its portrayal of the city from which it takes its name. Rated R. Opened on Wednesday throughout Houston.

“Borg vs. McEnroe”

The ’80s-era feud between tennis players Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe ranks as one of the great sports rivalries, and it’s brought to life on screen by Shia LeBeouf as McEnroe and Sverrir Gudnasons as Borg. Denmark’s Janus Metz, known for the war documentary “Armadillo,” directs. Rated R. Playing at Alamo Drafthouse, Katy.

“Finding Your Feet”

This winner of the audience award for best narrative film at the Palm Springs International Film Festival is the kind of whimsically smart-aleck British film that goes down well on this side of the Atlantic. Timothy Spall (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”), Imelda Staunton (“Maleficent”) and Joanna Lumley (“Absolutely Fabulous”) star in this romantic comedy about an elitist snob forced to live with her bohemian sister on the “bad” side of town. Rated PG-13. Playing at Landmark River Oaks, Houston.

“Rampage”

The combo of The Rock fighting giant, angry animals — victims of a genetic experiment — is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. It has to do better than “Baywatch,” right? It’s directed by Brad Peyton (“San Andreas,” “Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore”), so make of that what you will. Rated PG-13. Playing throughout Houston.

“Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero”

The true story of a stray dog, who becomes a World War I hero and remains the most decorated dog in American history, is realized as an animated film with the voices of Helena Bonham Carter, Logan Lerman and Gérard Depardieu. Rated PG. Playing throughout Houston.

“Truth or Dare”

No, it’s not “Madonna: Truth or Dare” from 1991. It’s Blumhouse’s “Truth or Dare,” which is something else altogether, as the Blumhouse brand is one of the most successful purveyors of modern horror. In this film, an innocent game of truth or dare turns deadly. It’s directed by Jeff Wadlow of “Kick Ass 2” fame. Rated PG-13. Playing throughout Houston.
