Still not signed, former 49er Reid opts to sue NFL

SANTA CLARA, Calif. —Safety Eric Reid is again following the lead of his former San Francisco 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick ,as Reid is now suing the NFL for collusion while his own free agency drags on after last week’s draft.

Reid, whose brother Justin was drafted last week by the Texans, started 69 of the 70 games he played the past five seasons for the 49ers.

He was the first player to kneel next to Kaepernick in 2016 during the national anthem protests.

Kaepernick is also suing the NFL after not playing since 2016. In other NFL news:

• The Jacksonvil­le Jaguars declined to exercise the fifth-year option in defensive end Dante Fowler‘s rookie contract.

The decision could mean Fowler, the third overall pick in the 2015 draft, becomes a free agent in 2019.

SOCCER Liverpool makes Champions final

Liverpool advanced to its first Champions League final in more than a decade despite a 4-2 loss at Roma.

The Reds scored two early goals and that was all they needed to advance 7-6 on aggregate after a 5-2 win in the first leg of the semifinals.

In the May 26 final in Kiev, Ukraine, Liverpool will face two-time defending champion Real Madrid.

HOCKEY Stars to hire college coach

The Dallas Stars will hire the University of Denver’s Jim Montgomery as their next coach, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press. Montgomery takes over for Ken Hitchcock, who retired last month and will become a consultant for the Stars.

Montgomery, 48, led Denver to a national title in 2016-17.

Joseph Deraney fired a 5-under-par 67 for a one-shot lead after 36 holes of the 13th annual Carlton Woods Invitation­al at The Woodlands. Deraney, from Lexington, Ky., who finished second here last year, is at 6under 138, a shot ahead of 2016 winner Colby Harwell. First-round coleader Tony Romo is tied for fifth place at 1-under 143 in the Mid-Amateur division. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterbac­k, who opened with a 69, shot 74 over the Fazio Course at The Club at Carlton Woods.
