GEORGE STRAIT RETURNS TO RODEOHOUSTON
George Strait will perform at the 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, officials announced this week. The rodeo will include an extra day of entertainment next year, a concert-only performance featuring Strait.
The rodeo will run Feb. 25 to March 17, 2019. Strait will perform on the last night, his 30th appearance at RodeoHouston. The show will take place more than 35 years after his first appearance at the event back in 1983.
“We are extremely excited to welcome George Strait back to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,” said Joel Cowley, rodeo president and CEO. “He’s been with us through many of our major milestones during the past three decades, has entertained more than 1.5 million RodeoHouston fans and is the only platinum honoree on our Star Trail of Fame.”
The show will be Strait’s only one in Texas in 2019. In 2012, he announced his Cowboy Rides Away Tour would be his last large-scale tour. It wrapped in 2014. Strait subsequently played shows in Las Vegas built entirely around his No. 1 songs, which is something not very many singers can do.
The rest of the HLSR performers will be announced in early January 2019. But following a year anchored by two Garth Brooks shows, the rodeo has made a strong play for a robust 2019.
Drake comes home, again
Drake and Migos are teaming up and hitting the road.
The hip-hop superstars announced this week the Aubrey and The Three Amigos Tour. They perform Sept. 29-30 at Toyota Center.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via the venue site.
Both acts have recently enjoyed a string of hit singles and collaborated on the tune “Walk It Talk It.” Migos was recently the big draw at Jmblya at Sam Houston Race Park. Drake, of course, calls Houston his second home.
