Parkway Place residents finding that changes can provide good experiences

-

A Greek philosopher famously said, “The only thing constant in life is change.”

It doesn’t take many years of living to know his words are true and see that change is an inevitable part of life for everyone. Residents at Parkway Place, a Buckner senior living community located in the heart of Houston’s Energy Corridor, understand it’s the attitude with which you handle change that makes all the difference. In fact, many Parkway Place residents find change fun and interesting.

If you take a walk around the beautifully landscaped 15-acre community today, you’ll see construction crews working hard to complete a $12.8 million renovation. Changes include updated interior design and the addition of a new bistro for residents looking for a more casual dining option. You’ll also likely find residents gathered at windows, eagerly watching the construction progress. For Parkway residents, these changes are exciting.

Not all life changes are as exciting as new paint color, but the caring spirit of Parkway residents and staff help turn even difficult changes into positive outcomes.

Last fall, nearly 20 now-residents had to make the best of change when Hurricane Harvey destroyed their homes. They came to Parkway Place and found hope through a welcoming community of new friends and neighbors. They dove right into the active Parkway Place lifestyle and became involved with daily activities such as Bible studies, bingo, Wii bowling and chair volleyball. Joann Haggard, the first resident to move to Parkway Place after the storm, said, “When I walked in, I knew it was OK. I felt like family.”

At Parkway Place, residents are free to engage in life however they choose. Whether enjoying the quiet comfort of their private independent living apartment or socializing with friends over a chefprepared meal in the dining room, residents are free to choose their own schedules.
