Cypress Boy Scout killed by falling tree

-

A Cypress Boy Scout was killed at summer camp Monday afternoon after a tree fell on him.

The teen was camping at the Bert Adams Scout Camp outside Atlanta when a tree collapsed on his tent. Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said the victim was a 14-yearold from Cypress, according to the Covington News.

The 1,300-acre camp had a weather alert Monday, which came mere minutes before the tree collapsed, said Jeff Alexander, a spokesman with the Newton County Sheriff ’s Office.

Bert Adams Scout Camp started its Boy Scout summer camp June 3. It was set to end June 30, according to the camp’s website.

“This is a very difficult time for our Scouting family,” Tracy Techau, CEO of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, said in a statement. “We offer our deepest condolences to the victim and his family, and we will support them in any way we can.”
