History offers hints

Regarding “Return of the lurid ‘blood libel’ strategy” (Page A13, Monday), columnist Paul Krugman hits the nail on the head. The irony is that this blood libel is not being used against Jews, but Muslims and people of color. The vast majority of the 9/11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia and practiced an extreme form of Islam and very different from most of the Muslim world. Most of the terrorists arrived by air and were granted entry through the legal entry points. Not a single terrorist in the United States has been from Mexico, Honduras or El Salvador.

So why are we going along with this nation shell game in which we are asked to focus on a non-problem and justify cruelty in the name of national security? It’s time for the press to wake up and stop playing by the rules of these nationalist extremists.

If we don’t look past this showmanship and focus on facts, history tells us that thing could end very badly indeed. Susan Miller Jackson, Houston
