VIRGINIA ELWYN PRATT HUTCHINSON

Virginia Elwyn Pratt Hutchinson, 94, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2018 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. She was born April 20, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Margaret Middleton Ferguson and Richard Henry Pratt.

Mrs. Hutchinson grew up in Mobile, Alabama and attended Converse College in Spartanbur­g, South Carolina. After marriage she lived in Metairie, Louisiana and Houston, Texas before residing with her daughter Donna in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmothe­r. Elwyn was a Girl Scout leader and a longtime member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Ceramic Society.

Friendly by nature, she was a lover of gardening, cooking and a passionate student of antiques and ceramics. She volunteere­d as a docent for many years at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens.

She is predecease­d by her husband James Havon Hutchinson, brother Richard Henry Pratt, Jr. and sister Margaret White Abbot.

She is survived by her daughters Julia Anderson of Poplarvill­e, Mississipp­i and Donna Thompson (Eugene) of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and son James Hutchinson, Jr. of Houston, Texas, and grandchild­ren Stacy Margaret Thompson and Eugene Thompson, III.

A private graveside service and interment will be held at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur Georgia.
