Daly strikes in each half after long weather delay
Even after an almost twohour lightning delay Wednesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium, the Dash’s Rachel Daly was ready to play.
Minutes after the Dash (5-6-5) and Orlando Pride (7-6-4) took the field following the stoppage, Daly beat Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris at the 17-minute mark for the first of the defender’s two goals on the night on the way to a 3-1 win in National Women’s Soccer League play.
Forward Kealia Ohai sparked the fast break and found a sprinting Daly on the opposite side of the field. One-on-one with the Pride goalkeeper and with three Pride players trailing, Daly drilled a shot right through the arms of the goalie.
In the 50th minute, Ohai shot from the left corner of the penalty box. The Pride keeper Harris deflected it, but the ball rolled to Daly, who scored her second
goal of the night off the volley.
Then in the 55th minute, Pride defender Shelina Zadorsky sent a cross from outside the right corner of the box, setting up forward Sydney Leroux for a header as Orlando cut the lead in half.
But Dash forward Thembi Kgatlana applied the finishing touch during added time. Kgatlana found the back of the net on a breakaway when she was oneon-one with the Pride keeper in the fifth minute of added time.
It marked the Dash’s second time beating the Pride in their three meetings this season. The Dash play on the road against the Portland Thorns FC on Sunday.
