Regarding “Sugar Land should nix red-light cameras” (Page A9, Tuesday), I am not a resident of Sugar Land, but am a resident of Houston and an advocate for red-light cameras for traffic law enforcement in any locale. I wish Houston still had them.

The author makes several valid points concerning red-light camera enforcement in Sugar Land which in my opinion can be rectified without getting rid of redlight camera enforcement.

First, there is the old complaint about municipalities making too much money from red-light camera fines. The simple answer to this is, stop running red lights. Later he mentions getting a ticket for running a red light at a slower speed and mini-seconds into the red light. My question is how long does a yellow light last? Most people are taught that when a light turns yellow, you slow down and prepare to stop. I’ve noticed in my 50 years of driving that people tend to speed up at a yellow light. There is plenty of time to stop if you are paying attention to your driving.
