MLB REPORT

The club put ace LHP Chris Sale on the disabled list Tuesday with left shoulder inflammation, meaning he will miss his scheduled start this week against the New York Yankees. Sale said the soreness is in the same spot as usual after a start, but he wasn’t recovering as quickly. Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said there were no plans for an MRI exam.

LHP J.A. Happ was diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease, an infectious illness that often affects young children. General manager Brian Cashman said Happ’s case appears to be mild, and that he still might be able to make his next scheduled start against Boston on Saturday.

RHP Carlos Martinez was placed on the DL with a right shoulder strain, an injury he suffered during a start Monday against Colorado.
