Teller linked to robbery arrested
Victim in critical condition; 2 other suspects jailed
A bank teller has been arrested in connection with a violent robbery last week that left a female customer hospitalized in critical condition, according to county law officials.
The suspect, Shelby Taylor Wyse, reportedly worked at the bank where the female victim withdrew $75,000 before the attack, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.
Wyse has been booked into Harris County
Jail on a robbery charge, and she appeared for a probable cause hearing Wednesday morning.
Two other suspected robbers have been identified as Travonn Johnson and Davis Mitchell, and both are being held in county jail without bail. At the court hearing, prosecutors said Wyse was in a dating relationship with Johnson, who drove a vehicle leased in her name during the robbery.
On Aug. 17, the woman withdrew $75,000 in cash from a Wallis State Bank. Police viewed video surveillance footage from the bank that appeared to show Wyse watching the victim during the transaction, prosecutors said during Wednesday’s hearing.
The video then showed Wyse sending a text message, which police believe to be a signal to the other suspects, according to prosecutors. As of
Wednesday morning, police had not viewed the text message and were working on obtaining a search warrant for Wyse’s phone, prosecutors said.
After the bank withdrawal at about 9:30 a.m., police said Johnson and Mitchell followed the victim as she pulled into a gas station in the 23200 block of Northwest Freeway.
Video surveillance footage shows the woman walking into a building when a suspect — whom police identified as Mitchell — attacked the woman and attempted to yank away her purse.
While the woman resisted, her husband came to her defense and fought Mitchell.
That’s when a black Chrysler 300 pulled up to the lo- cation and a man — believed to be Johnson — got out.
The video appears to show Johnson stomping and beating the couple. At one point, Johnson appears to get back in the car and back over the man and woman.
The woman never let go of her purse and is expected to survive her injuries, according to earlier reports.
The extent of her husband’s injuries was unclear.
Johnson and Mitchell are facing charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
