Webster’s debut leads to IR
Texans cornerback Kayvon Webster is being placed on injured reserve with a quadriceps injury, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.
Webster got hurt a few plays into his debut with the Texans against the Dallas Cowboys.
Webster was signed to a one-year, $2.25 million contract during the preseason.
Webster was replaced on the active roster by defensive back Mike Tyson, who was promoted from the practice squad. Tyson is a former Seattle Seahawks seventh-round draft pick from Cincinnati.
The Texans’ secondary is banged up, with Aaron
Colvin out several weeks with an ankle injury, Kevin
Johnson on injured reserve with a concussion and Shareece Wright also dealing with injuries. The Texans signed former Indianapolis Colts and UNLV cornerback Robert Jackson to the practice squad.
Hopkins on pace for huge season
Texans wide receiver
DeAndre Hopkins delivered one of his top performances Sunday night and is setting a torrid pace as the featured target in a pass-first offense.
Hopkins has 39 catches for 594 yards and two touchdowns through five games. He’s on pace to finish the season with 125 receptions for 1,900 yards.
Hopkins’ dramatic, spinning 49-yard catchand-run in a 19-16 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys set the stage for the game-winning field goal, making up for a rare fumble. Signed to a fiveyear, $81 million contract last year, Hopkins finished the game with nine receptions for 151 yards on 13 targets
“He’s our No. 1 guy,” coach Bill O’Brien said. “I think everybody in the league knows that. We try to target him 20 to 25 times a game.
“I think in certain areas of the field, we have to do a better job with targeting him, but that’s why he makes the big bucks. He’s a playmaker. He wants the ball on every snap, and that’s what makes him who he is.”
Coutee doesn’t play like rookie
Texans wide receiver Keke Coutee is an unusually precocious rookie. Coutee is proving to be a quick study. In two games since returning from a strained hamstring, he has 17 receptions for 160 yards
and one touchdown. Coutee passed DeAndre
Hopkins for the most catches through a player’s first two games in franchise history. He also surpassed New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley and Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen for the third-most catches by a player in his first two career games since the AFLNFL merger in 1970, trailing just Earl Cooper and Anquan Boldin.
“Keke is balling,” Hopkins said. “I knew from the first day he came in here he played with confidence. He walked around the building like he’s been here before. You wouldn’t know he’s a rookie if you talked to him.
“He’s mastering this offense. He’s further ahead than I was in my first year in this offense. But that’s how great he wants to be.”
