Boys
Ijeana Wooley, Baytown Lee
Notable: Wooley completed 28 of 36 passes for 513 yards and six touchdowns in a 62-61 win over Vidor. He also rushed for 40 yards on six carries. Lee has at least four wins for the first time since 2012. What coach Tim Finn said: “He’s had a great year, not just a great game. It was a tremendous effort. He had three touchdowns called back, but he didn’t get discouraged. He kept plugging away.” Other nominees
Spencer Cardinal, The Woodlands: The Highlanders won a fourth consecutive state cross country title and Cardinal’s bronze-medal-winning time of 14 minutes, 50.25 seconds in the 5K led the way. Taye McWilliams, Lamar Consolidated: One of the most efficient performances of the season saw McWilliams rack up 240 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries in a 59-0 win over Cleveland. Eric Rodriguez, Travis: Rodriguez matched his career high with five touchdowns on only 17 pass attempts. He completed 13 for 286 yards without an interception in a 68-24 rout of Kempner.
Girls
Makensy Manbeck, Friendswood
Notable: The middle blocker had 18 kills in playoff sweeps of Vidor and Shadow Creek to move the Mustangs to Tuesday’s regional quarterfinals. She hit .394 for the week and added seven blocks.

Paulk said: “Makensy has been a dominate hitter for us this season and it has continued into the playoffs. She had two great games in the first two rounds of playoffs and led our team in kills and blocks for the week in two great team wins.” Other nominees
Aniah Adams, Hightower: Adams served 10 aces and added four kills as the Hurricanes won their first playoff match in
school history, sweeping District 23-5A champion Waltrip. Catherine Krieger,
Foster: Krieger led with nine kills and eight aces in a bi-district sweep of Madison, then hit .436 with 19 kills and 16 digs against Port Neches-Groves for the area championship. Allison Wilson, Montgomery: Wilson turned in a silver medal-winning time of 17:16.33 in the Class 5A state cross country championships.
