Lies and lying liars
Trump mistruth
President Trump falsely stated he had a $110 billion arms deal with the Saudis and his supporters raved about his business acumen. Why hasn’t your paper exposed this whopper? The bulk of these Obamaera contracts are letters of intent. Trump inflated their value by billions. Were it not for bankruptcy laws Trump might well be living under a bridge. Bill Philbin, Houston
Cruz fibbin’
I am a Navy veteran and have been a resident of Texas all of my 63 years. I am disgusted with the current Republican Party even though I have voted for more Republican candidates than any other party in the past. I stopped supporting U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz after President Donald Trump won the Republican primary and Cruz became Trump’s lapdog.
Cruz’s distortions of Democratic Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke’s positions needed to be exposed by the media. Cruz’s hypocrisy over campaign contributors from outside the state ignores the fact that most of his own PAC money wasn’t from Texans and Beto took no PAC money.
Please fact-check both sides fairly and don’t allow another election to be stolen by lies and misrepresentation. Tom Simpson, Missouri City
False witness
A judge dismissed one of six criminal sexual assault charges against disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein after prosecutors acknowledged they had discovered inconsistencies in statements made by one of his accusers. Yet when Christine Blasey Ford came forward with her accusation against now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh, an accusation so inconsistent and full of holes, there was no discussion in the court of public opinion that her accusations may not be true. We believe her, said the protesters.
Even though Weinstein appears to be a scumbag, it is encouraging to know that some prosecutors and judges are willing to look for truth, and not use mob mentality as many do. James Connealy, Baytown
